Wages, employment surveys up in Aklan
The Philippine Statistics Authority-Aklan is currently conducting the 2016 Occupational Wages Survey (OWS) and the 2015/2016 Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment (ISLE).
The survey, which is conducted every two years, aims to generate statistics for wage and salary administration and wage determination in collective bargaining negotiations.
About 37 large business establishments in Aklan were taken as samples for this survey mostly comprising of hotels, restaurants and trade sectors.
Engr. Antonet B. Catubuan, Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA-Aklan, said that data derive from this survey can be used as basis for investment decisions and determining global competitiveness of our industries and occupations.
She, also, said that data on wage rates can be used to measure wage differentials, wage inequality and for international comparability.
On the other hand, information collected on labor and employment serves as inputs to studies on industry trends and practices, bases for policy formulation, conditions of work and industrial relations.
Cover in the survey are unionism and collective bargaining, employment of specific groups of workers, occupational shortages and surpluses, productivity-based incentive schemes, occupational safety and health practices and occupational injuries and diseases.
Engr. Catubuan appealed to all respondents to support this survey by giving truthful answers to data collectors.
She assured them that all information furnished to PSA will be held “strictly confidential” and cannot be used for taxation, investigation or law enforcement purposes.
