PSA joins Civil Registration Month celebration
In keeping with one of its mandate to enforce the Civil Registry Law, the Philippine Statistics Authority, Aklan Provincial Office is currently celebrating this year’s Civil Registration Month with the theme: “Makiisa… Makisali sa Dekadang CRVS.”
According to Mrs. Antonet Catubuan, OIC-Provincial Statistics Officer, the celebration is in consonance with the global advocacy of getting everyone registered and of promoting awareness on the importance of civil registration in the lives of the every Filipino.
“The civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) is very important for it serves as a basis for formulation of health programs, population projection and policy-making activities of the government for social and economic growth,” Mrs. Catubuan said.
This month-long celebration is also a reminder to parents, records clerk, midwives, traditional “hilot” and other informant that registration is compulsory and it is their prime responsibility to give correct and accurate information during registration to prevent erroneous entries in the civil registry documents.
In line with this celebration, the PSA-Aklan in cooperation with Aklan Civil Registrars Association, slated various activities such as hanging of streamers, civil mass wedding in selected municipalities, symposium, charitable activities and information campaign.
The annual observance of this activity is anchored on Presidential Proclamation No.682 “Declaring the Month of February of every year as Civil Registration Month.”
Mrs. Catubuan urged the public to support this activity and consider the importance of civil registration for an effective and vibrant civil registry system in the province.
