Building constructions in Aklan drop by 13.43 percent in 2015
The total number of new construction projects from approved building permits in Aklan reached to 522 in 2015 or a decrease of 13.43 percent compared to 2014 figure of 603.
The second quarter of 2015 had the highest number of buildings constructed with 151, followed by the fourth quarter with 130. Meanwhile, in 2014, the 2nd quarter registered the highest construction of 219, while the 4th quarter has the lowest with only 87 buildings constructed.
Among the 17 municipalities, Kalibo recorded the highest number of new construction projects with 228 (44.36%), followed by Malay with 144 (28.02%), Banga with 31 (6.03%), New Washington and Numancia with 24 (4.67%), respectively.
Residential-type of building projects dropped by 23.10% or 273 in 2015 compared to 355 in 2015. On the other hand, non-residential constructions increased by 0.4% from 248 in 2014 to 249 in 2015.
Similarly, the total value of construction projects in the province for 2015 reached to P1.8 billion, a decrease by more than three times the amount reported in 2014 at P5.7 billion.
Value of construction for new residential buildings decreased by 21.8 percent from P750.4 million to P586.7 million in 2015, while, the value of construction for new non-residential building dropped 75.4 percent from P4.9 billion in 2014 to P1.2 billion in 2015.
Given a total floor area of 61,419 square meters, the average cost of residential building construction in 2015 amounted to P9, 552.66 per square meter.
According to OIC Antonet B. Catubuan, statistics generated from approved building permits are the bases of estimating the level of construction activity in computing the national income accounts and indicators on the level of investments in country.
Construction statistics are compiled by PSA-Aklan from copies of original application forms of approved building permits as well as from the demolition permits collected every month by PSA from the offices of Local Building Officials in every municipality.
